Baltic Sea letter in a bottle found 24 years later

In this Friday, March 11, 2011 photo Daniil Korotkikh shows a letter he found in a bottle on a beach …

MOSCOW – Nearly a quarter-century after a German boy tossed a message in a bottle off a ship in the Baltic Sea, he's received an answer.
A 13-year-old Russian, Daniil Korotkikh, was walking with his parents on a beach when he saw something glittering lying in the sand.
"I saw that bottle and it looked interesting," Korotkikh told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "It looked like a German beer bottle with a ceramic plug, and there was a message inside."
His father, who knows schoolboy German, translated the letter, carefully wrapped in cellophane and sealed by a medical bandage.
It said: "My name is Frank, and I'm five years old. My dad and I are traveling on a ship to Denmark. If you find this letter, please write back to me, and I will write back to you."
The letter, dated 1987, included an address in the town of Coesfeld.
The boy in the letter, Frank Uesbeck, is now 29. His parents still live at the letter's address.
"At first I didn't believe it," Uesbeck told the AP about getting the response from Korotkikh. In fact, he barely remembered the trip at all; his father actually wrote the letter.
The Russian boy and the German man met each other earlier this month via an Internet video link.
Korotkikh showed Uesbeck the bottle where he found the message and the letter that he put in a frame.
The Russian boy said he does not believe that the bottle actually spent 24 years in the sea: "It would not have survived in the water all that time," he said.
He believes it had been hidden under the sand where he found it — on the Curonian Spit, a 100-kilometer (60-mile) stretch of sand in Lithuania and Russia.
In the web chat earlier this month, Uesbek gave Korotkikh his new address to write to and promised to write back when he receives his letter.
"He'll definitely get another letter from me," the 29-year-old said.
Uesbeck was especially thrilled that he was able to have a positive impact on a life of a young person far away from Germany.
"It's really a wonderful story," he said. "And who knows? Perhaps one day we will actually be able to arrange a meeting in person."

1st Year Accounting Students' Industrial Visit Trip 2

Salam...

First of all, I would like to announce officially that the Industrial Visit (IV) for 1st year Accounting students had met the end line! wee~ *It means a lot to me!*

However it is, they still enjoy this. hip2 horraaay! =)

Last Wednesday, BMB 2, BMB 3 and half of BMB 1 had joined this IV. This time we headed to Beryl's chocolate factory, Serdang and Malaysia Rubber Board (MRB), KL. Alhamdulillah, we (the committee) tried to do our best after we learnt the mistakes that we had done during the 1st IV. And it works a lot! Thanks guys!

Okay2. Let's begin our journey..

We started our journey from USIM at 9am and arrived at Serdang about 9.45am. The weather on that morning was cloudy and it was raining after passing thru Kajang toll.

At Beryl's, the mixture of milk+chocolate can be smelt everywhere and this can be detected during our 1st step there! OMG! I like chocolate smell! Anyway, we watched a chocolate making presentation after had been invited by one of Beryl's officer. After that, the officer brought us to the Wall-of-Chocolate-History tour. It tells a lot about chocolate history, the making of chocolate and many more.

Wall-of-Chocolate-History

After the 10mins tour, it is chocolate shopping time! wallawey! I thought USIM's students didn't like chocolate! haha. They shopped till drop! RM15++ per person for this only! phew!

yeah! shopping till there is a hole in your pocket! =p

However, the officer had limited our shopping time because there will be next trip after us. To make it short, our plan of 1h 30mins beryl's tour not achieved the objective. why I'm saying like that? because this tour only took 45mins only guys! 45mins! How we want to spend the free time before 2.30pm?

hahaha. the answer is......

We headed to Great Eastern Mall (GEM)! haha. And, we call this as emergency plan! YES, EMERGENCY PLAN! (no typing error here, guys) Luckily, GEM is there; several steps to MRB... hehehe. yeah. Sort of happening event I can see and experience there - market surveying, prank calling, shopping again (yet, it is a good purpose, buy a novel again!)

Great Eastern Mall, Jalan Ampang, KL

After performed Zohor prayer there, we headed to MRB with our courageous-effort.. yeah.. we are so courage to walk at KL roads with hundred-unstoppable-cars!! I hate to cross road especially at KL! Then, I call this part, death booking ! (menempah maut!)

 warmest welcome form MRB's officers

Okay2. Let's continue the journey...

At MRB, we had been welcomed by MRB's officers with warmest heart. yeah! What I can see is they accept our visit with their big heart! <3

Encik Junaidi b Ismail, MRB's Chief Accountant

Explanation about the system they used.

We had been briefed by Encik Junaidi about MRB, accounting software system they used and many more.. we learnt a lot there. And, the most precious keyword we need to hold is FAHAM not HAFAL if we want to be a successful accountant in the future! =)

After that, we toured Account & Financial Department. Owh ya! Forgot to say, MRB building had been built since 1925! whoa! It is heritage building..

Happy faces at all!

Yeah3! I'm really satisfy with this trip 2... This is because of all of them behave properly and my BMB2 classmates followed for this time.. =)) U made me smile till the ears..

Okay, before I end this post, I would like to say a lot of thank you to Eman (head of trip 2), Fazlie (chief of industrial visit), Atikah Nor (secretary of IV), Aqwam (head of trip 1), kak Zakiah (deputy head of trip 1) and all who have succeeded this trip. Thank you for your cooperation !

Bye ! Take care !

P/s: 1. end of this IV means 1 burden has been reduced. =)
2. I learnt to drink one beverage yesterday, milo tabur! hahaha.. thank you for introducing me this...
3. Today, they will arrive at Malaysia.. Miss them.. I want to go to KLIA! yeay!

Rainbow just shows her self today... =)

Can you see the beautiful rainbow there? I want to reach it! Can someone take it for me? wee~
[this picture was taken today at 7.26pm from Block B, KK1 USIM]

Rainbow, Rainbow
that was her nickname.
A name she had obtained,
for all the colors she'd appreciate.

Rainbow, Rainbow
that was her calling
to come out in style to show the worlds vibrant.

Rainbow, Rainbow
they laughed at her colors
said she was different
not normal like others.

Rainbow, Rainbow
they took her as a joke.
Just a mere girl looking for attention you know?

Rainbow, Rainbow
lover of rain
not a care in the world of what other people say.

Rainbow, Rainbow
she started too change
The world saw her brightly
now shes all black and grey.

Rainbow, Rainbow
why goes this way.
We've all secretly loved you.
So why not stay the same!

Rainbow, Rainbow
you bring us joy
You shed light too our day.
So go back to your ways

Rainbow, Rainbow
we appreciate your love!
We see differently now
so stay who you are.

Rainbow, Rainbow!
That's who I am.
A girl of 14
who is oddly at best.

Rainbow, Rainbow!
Everyone calls me that.
I'm just a use for you all,
 but i don't mind that.

Rainbow, Rainbow
A mirror image I am.
A reflection of colors
that most people don't understand.

Rainbow, Rainbow
you called my name?
Why hello I'm here.
To shed light to your day

anees akbar

p/s: i. sometimes Allah hides the Sun and make it Rain to show you the Rainbow. =)
ii. When I looked at the sky today, I looked for the aeroplane too.. ='(

1st Year Accounting Students' Industrial Visit Trip 1

Salam..

Before this, I had posted that I'm one of the committee for Industrial Visit. So, praise be to Allah, the 1st trip had been successfully held last Wednesday (9th March 2011). The heads of visit are Aqwam and Kak Zakiah.

The journey began at 8.30 am from KK1, USIM. The first place we headed to was Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), KL. Praise be to Allah again that the journey on that morning was smooth. Yeah, I thought there will be morning jam as usual because people heading towards city on the morning.

FYI, students had been divided into two groups for this Industrial Visit because corporate company can't accept 140++ students for visiting. So, we decided to divide into two. And, this trip 1 is consists of students from BMB 4, 5 and half from BMB 1.

After 50mins of journey, we arrived at PNB and the programme started with briefing from an officer of Accounting department and followed by briefing about PNB. As usual, at the end of the briefing, there must be Q&A session. Those students participated actively by asking many questions.

And, one of that is "As Sime Darby is one of your anak syarikat, does the investment had been affected last year? As all of us know that Sime Darby has internal problem last year," asked Mardhiah, one of the students. *buat-buat xkenal je siapa Mardhiah tu.... =p* The answer is, PNB already has their reserve@back-up investment.

[candid style in front of PNB office]

At 12.30pm, we headed to Shah Alam for Zuhur prayer at Shah Alam Mosque. Alhamdulillah, at this time, all what we've planned had been tallied with the tentative provided. After performed Zuhur prayer, we headed to Karangkraf at 2.30pm.

[in front of Karangkraf]

We had been brought by the officer to have all departments visiting - graphic, editorial, printing etc. Actually, this is one of my long-time-dream; to visit any behind the scenes (magazine or newspaper printing, television). It is an interesting experience to have behind the scenes view.

At here, students had been exposed to editor's, graphic designer's, journalist's tasks. Also, how printing and stapling machine works and many more! I can't describe here! hehe.

[some students with ILUVISLAM's editor]

Anyhow, this visit end at 7pm and it was totally overstayed from the tentative. It should finish at 5pm. And, I can see exhausted faces from each students! haha. We arrived at USIM  at 9pm after performed Maghrib prayer at Dengkil R&R.

Frankly speaking, it is not easy to handle students' visit! Kiddies' visit is more easy la... yeah. As what oldies said, "banyak udang banyak garam, banyak orang banyak garam.." Obviously, from this visit, the students itself had proved this statement! huh.

I hope for the next trip, this coming Wednesday (16th March 2011) will run smoothly. We will head to Beryl's Chocolate factory, Serdang and Malaysia Rubber Board, KL. And, my advice is please behave yourself okay!

Bye!

P/s: Mummy, nak follow! ='(

No Title

Saya rasa awak best, boleh buat kawan.

Tp, baru2 ni, bila awak buat macam tu depan saya, rasa mcm nak marah2. Tp, saya tahan je. Tak lepaskan pun kemarahan depan awak.

Cuma, adalah buat muka masam sikit. Yela, sedih tau! Lagipun, sy tak sanggup nak marah kawan sy. Sy simpan je sorang2. Entah bila awak nak faham entah. Tapi, awak slumber je marah sy. Macam awak xtau plak sy ni manusia la. Hati tak ada la keras mana. Mesti tersentuh juga akhirnya.

Tapi, awak macam xtau je yang sebenarnya sy tengah marah kat awak. Tak pela. Fine. Sy budak biasa je. Awak pandang sy sebelah mata je kan? Mungkin ada yang lebih hebat dari saya. Ya, memang ada. Saya faham la.... ='(

This is for the craving one out there...

[spaghetti aglio olio served with hash brown are nice!]

So, for you. Yeah. For you, the one that asking me for the recipe. This is the recipe.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio
Serves four
  • 1 lb. dried long pasta
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 4 medium garlic cloves
  • Paprika
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 or 2 Tblsp. minced fresh herbs such as parsley, fresh oregano or a mixture (optional)
  • Freshly grated Parmesan (pass separately)

Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Cook the pasta al dente and drain,
saving about 1/2 cup of the pasta water. While the pasta is cooking, gently
warm the olive oil in a large sauté pan, add the garlic either slivered or
minced and heat just until the garlic turns golden. If you are using the
red pepper flakes, add them here. Remove garlic or not according to your
taste. Set oil aside until pasta is drained. Place oil back on medium low flame
and toss pasta, in the sauté pan, with salt until well coated. If the pasta
seems dry add dribbles of the pasta water. Add herbs and just heat through.
Serve immediately with a good grind of black pepper, and pass the grated
cheese at table. I also like to have a cruet of olive oil on the table so diners
may add a drizzle if they wish.

********************************
My dear, the one that I usually cook is:

1. I don't remove the garlic as the recipe suggested "Remove garlic or not
according to your taste."

2. pasta al dente means pasta that have been cooked so as to be firm but
not hard.

3. Why must "Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil." ? Because to avoid
the spaghetti stick to the surface of the pan itself. Or, you can boil with just 2
drops of oil + water instead of preparing the salted water.

4. Before this, I never serve this with cheese because my dad doesn't prefer
cheese to put inside. So, that's why we serve it with hash brown. However,
if you like cheese, have a try! Serve immediately with a good grind of black
pepper, and pass the grated cheese at table

5. Forget to mention, the prep time takes 5 mins only and the cooking time is
about 15-20 mins - depends on the chef's skill! =p - So, that's why it is also
known as express spaghetti !

So, the recipe and the tips already given, do cook it! Then, let me have a try! =)

That's all. Have a nice day!

P/s: Look forward for me to cook? Wait ya! ^_^
